Easy going, silky, and light with soft notes of sweet caramels and fleshy yellow fruit.

Antonio Rigno’s small farm (or chacara), São Judas, lies in the high plains of Piatã in the Chapada Diamantina region of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia. Antonio cultivates both catuaí and bourbon varieties, and his harvest in Piatã peaks in June and July. Though Antonio’s methods reflect those of most of producers we work with, his Chacara (and generally, most coffee from Piatã) defies what most imagine when they think of Brazil. São Judas is surrounded by forest. The mesa like landscape broken by intermittent hills and cliffs, dotted with tall, lanky palms. Antonio’s coffee trees grow beneath partial shade with citrus and other fruit trees scattered throughout the farm. He picks his coffee by hand almost daily during peak harvest. Ripe cherry is immediately depulped in small batches leaving some of the coffee fruit pulp intact. The pulped natural parchment is then dried on covered patios. Oh, Bahia… Que Saudade!
