Busanze
$19 - 12oz

Smooth and silky with notes of spiced sweets, preserved dark fruits, and honey with a light pop of fresh red berry.

The brand new Impexcor-Busanze coffee washing station serves about 2,000 farmers in Nyaruguru, an area in Rwanda’s Southern Province. Producers harvest their own coffee and then deliver the ripe cherry to the wet mill to be bulked into community day lots to be washed, and dried on raised beds. This specific lot represents a number of producers who contribute to the washing station, and placed 7th in Cup of Excellence, which is exciting since this is the mill’s first harvest season! Now, with the advent of the new wet-mill, the community’s farmers have access to a nearby washing station, which allows for this specific area’s coffee to be kept separate, and ultimately celebrated for quality. Remera
$15 - 12oz

Notes of dried, mixed fruits: figs, black cherry, and currant. Honey and spice on the finish.

Remera washing station is one of several wet mills owned by Epiphane Mukashyaka, her son, Samuel Muhirwa, and their family. Epiphane is incredibly important to the recent history of specialty coffee in Rwanda. She and Samuel have been prominent and influential figures in the specialty coffee sector for the past couple of decades. Remera, Epiphane’s first washing station, now serves about 500 registered farmers who work small, garden style plots in Kamonyi, in Rwanda’s southern hills. Harvest here peaks in June. The farmers deliver coffee cherry to Remera where it is bulked into community day lots, then washed, and dried on raised beds.

São Judas
$17 - 12oz

Easy going, silky, and light with soft notes of sweet caramels and fleshy yellow fruit.

Antonio Rigno’s small farm (or chacara), São Judas, lies in the high plains of Piatã in the Chapada Diamantina region of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia. Antonio cultivates both catuaí and bourbon varieties, and his harvest in Piatã peaks in June and July. Though Antonio’s methods reflect those of most of producers we work with, his Chacara (and generally, most coffee from Piatã) defies what most imagine when they think of Brazil. São Judas is surrounded by forest. The mesa like landscape broken by intermittent hills and cliffs, dotted with tall, lanky palms. Antonio’s coffee trees grow beneath partial shade with citrus and other fruit trees scattered throughout the farm. He picks his coffee by hand almost daily during peak harvest. Ripe cherry is immediately depulped in small batches leaving some of the coffee fruit pulp intact. The pulped natural parchment is then dried on covered patios. Oh, Bahia… Que Saudade!

Alegria
$15 - 12oz

Notes of honey and mixed fruit.

William Vasquez’ farm, Alegria, sits high in the mountains above the town of San Martín de Pangoa, on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Peru’s Selva Central near the edge of the Amazon rainforest. Alegria lies in the thick of the jungle, surrounded by the trees of the forest, rivers, and cloudy peaks, where harvest here peaks in July. William depulps his coffee using a small crank depulper, then washes the depulped cherry in a small tank, and finally dries on site in a covered greenhouse style dryer. William is an innovative, involved, and quality driven grower member of the long established Cooperativa Agraria Cafetelera located in the town center. He is working with other leadership in the cooperative to continue to identify farmers who are producing high quality coffee, an initiative geared towards putting the region on the map for fine coffee production.
